Synopsis:

Directed by Sunny Rae Keller, this meditative short film offers an intimate portrait of artist Melissa Hammond during her time in Paris. The film highlights the role of observation in the creative process, capturing Hammond’s quiet rituals of drawing and reflection across the city.

Hammond is seen sketching live models at Studio Escalier, practicing plein air drawing in Montmartre’s winding streets, enjoying Parisian cafés and pastries, and exploring the Louvre, where she studies and draws the sculpture of Diana and her dog. The journey culminates in photography at the Jardin des Tuileries, where Hammond’s gaze turns outward to the movement and textures of the city’s landscape.

Shot with a contemplative rhythm and visual sensitivity, the film mirrors Hammond’s own artistic practice, rooted in attention, patience, and the translation of lived experience into art. More than a documentary, it is a meditation on the spaces where inspiration dwells and the way art is born from looking deeply at the world.

Directors Bio:

Sunny Rae Keller is an American filmmaker and musician based in Paris. A graduate of the Global BFA in Film Art program at Emerson College and Paris College of Art, her work moves between visual storytelling and sound, often exploring the poetry of observation and everyday life.

Living and working in Paris, Keller is active in the city’s independent music and film communities, collaborating with local artists and musicians while developing her own indie-folk record. Her short stop-motion film City Bird is currently touring international festivals, and her projects frequently blend meditative pacing, subtle humor, and a sensitivity to place.
